Little Bird from Allison on Vimeo.

My newest video and the end-of-semester project.  It's kind of like a collage, but as a video!

This is just a little video I thought I'd throw up here for fun.  It was my very first attempt with stop motion, but it's pretty rough.

Painting with Light

From Light Painting
Let me start off with an explanation: I caught a terrible (terrible!) cold last Wednesday which refused to let up all throughout the weekend.  So between the sniffling and the sneezing, these are the photos that I was able to capture.  Unfortunately, we only had a red laser pointer and a regular flashlight at home to play with (and I wasn't about to leave the house in my current condition to track down and LED light), so I couldn't do too many cool things.  Also, I admit I was a little lacking in inspiration.

Having said that, I do like what I was able to do.  I'm really intreagued by this long-exposure light painting thing, and I'll definitely continue playing with it in the future.

(Also, I just noticed this, please excuse the digital clock numbers that appear in EVERY photo of Brian!)

Black And White

From Black and White
I haven't done much black and white photography, but I've been reading through one of Ansel Adam's photography guides so I was really interested in this project.  Luckily, it was a beautiful day on Saturday, so we were able to go out to the Arboretum and I was able to use some new pictures in this album.  I think, though, that I liked turning my old color photos into black and white even more.

Unfortunately, though I do have a copy of photoshop at home, it's a really really old version and I wasn't able to figure out how to use all the different black and white tools that we'd learned about in class.  So I ended up using Picasa to adjust my pictures.  I really like the results, though.  Picasa's a good little app!

Macro

From Macro

Macro is probably my favorite form of photography to take.  I love how such a tight frame and close focus can make you look at a familiar subject as if it's totally new.  I have a telephoto/macro lens that I was able to use for this assignment.  It's not a true macro, or even really a good one, but it's definitely better than anything I could do with just my kit lens and macro setting.  It doesn't have the vibration reduction, though, so I had to bust out the tripod for this assignment again.  I found that I'm still having trouble getting the plane of focus correct every time.  After shooting for a while, my eye starts to hurt from looking through that little viewfinder!  And it gets harder to tell which exact part of my subject I'm focusing on.  But I love it all the same!

Portraits with Artificial Light

From Portrait

It was a little cramped in my make-shift studio, but we made it work.  I couldn't get too far away from Brian, though, or I would get the light stands in the picture!
